Solid Hardwood Mitre Doors

Solid mitre doors provide a rich, sophisticated design with their deeply sculpted door panels.

What Makes a Mitre Door

The frame is cut at 45 degrees and joined at the corners, so whatever moulding you choose runs unbroken all the way around the panel. On a square-framed door the moulding stops where the rail meets the stile. That continuous line is the reason to choose a mitre door, and it is what gives it the more formal look.

Mouldings and Panels

Two moulding types. Custom flat moulding is machined to the profile you pick. Formed moulding is pressed to shape, which allows deeper and more sculpted detail.

Two panel types with each. A flat panel sits back within the frame and keeps things quieter. A solid or raised panel is shaped and stands proud, and it is the more traditional of the two. All four combinations are shown above.

Wood, and What That Means

These are solid hardwood, stained or painted. Wood is grown rather than manufactured, so density, grain and colour vary within a species and even within a single door. Stains sit differently on that variation, and lighter stains show it most.

Our warranty page sets out what to expect in some detail. It is worth reading before you settle on a light stain.

Common Questions

What is the difference between a mitre door and a square door?

How the frame corners are joined. A mitre door is cut at 45 degrees, so the moulding runs continuously around the panel. A square door is joined at right angles, so the moulding stops at each corner. Mitre reads more formal, square reads cleaner.

What species can I have?

Maple, oak and others. Tell us the look you are after and we will show you what suits it.

Stained or painted?

Either. Stain shows the grain, which is usually the reason to choose hardwood in the first place. Paint on hardwood will show some grain over time; if that would bother you, painted MDF stays flatter.

Will the doors match each other exactly?

Not exactly, and no solid wood door does. Colour tone varies with density and grain direction, and one stain reads differently across two boards. Our warranty page covers this in full.

Is there a warranty?

Cabinetry is covered for 5 years, and hinges and drawer glides carry a lifetime warranty through our suppliers. Full warranty details.
