What an Aluminium Door Is

An aluminium frame around a glass insert rather than a solid panel. The frame section is narrow, so most of the door is glass and the cabinet reads lighter than a run of solid fronts. We cut and assemble them to your measurements in the Burnaby shop.

Frame Finishes and Profiles

Aluminium, stainless steel and pale bronze. Each comes in more than one profile, and the profile changes how heavy the frame looks against the glass. The reference numbers above identify each one.

Where They Work

Wall cabinets and display cabinets, where you want to see what is inside. A common arrangement is glass-fronted aluminium above and solid doors below, which breaks up a long run of cabinetry and gives you somewhere to put the things worth looking at.

Glass changes how a small kitchen feels, too. A row of solid upper doors reads as a wall; the same run in glass reads as depth.

What to Know Before You Choose

Whatever is behind the glass is on display, which is either the point or a problem depending on the cupboard. Worth deciding which cabinets get them before the layout is settled.

The glass wants an ammonia-free cleaner sprayed onto the cloth rather than onto the door, so nothing seeps in behind the frame. Full guidance is in our product care guide.

Aluminium Doors

Aluminium Cabinets and Cupboards

Aluminium (aluminum) frame doors go by a few names: aluminium cabinets, aluminium kitchen cabinets, aluminium cupboards. What you are buying is the door. It is fitted to cabinets we build in our Burnaby shop, so it can go on uppers, display units and a bar as part of the whole kitchen.

We make the aluminium frame doors only, not aluminium cabinet boxes. The cabinets behind them are built in our Burnaby shop.

Bars, Bathrooms and Lift-Up Doors

Display cabinets and bars. A glassware cabinet or a drinks bar is one of the few places where you want the contents seen, and a thin frame keeps the eye on them.

Bathrooms. Linen and wall cabinets are a good fit. A metal frame does not swell or warp with steam the way a wood frame can.

Lift-up and flap doors. A frame door can hang on regular hinges, or lift up and out of the way on a lift system. That suits a tall wall cabinet over a counter, where a swinging door would be in your way. Our accessories page shows the lift systems we fit.

Aluminium, Painted or Wood Doors

Aluminium frame doors show what is inside, look lighter and suit modern rooms. That also means the shelves behind them need to stay tidy. Painted MDF and hardwood doors hide the contents and suit traditional kitchens as well as modern ones. Many kitchens use both: glass in aluminium on the uppers, solid doors below.

You can compare every option on our cabinet doors page, including painted MDF.

How Ordering Works with Aero

Our cabinetry is built in our own Burnaby shop and installed by our own crew. It starts with a free in-home estimate, where we measure the space. You get a quotation first. Then comes the design phase, with drawings and 3D renderings, and we adjust the quotation until you are happy with it.

See how that works for a whole room on our custom kitchens page, or contact us or call 604-559-8080 to book your estimate.

Door samples are easier to judge in person than on a screen. Our Burnaby showroom is open by appointment, so call 604-559-8080 to book a visit.

Prices depend on the type and size of each door, so every order is quoted. Aluminium frame doors take 8 to 12 weeks from order.

Common Questions

What is an aluminium cabinet door?

An aluminium frame around a glass or panel insert, rather than a solid door. The frame is slim, so more of the door is glass, which is what gives it the look. We make them to your measurements in our Burnaby shop.

What finishes do the frames come in?

Aluminium, stainless steel and pale bronze, across several frame profiles. The profiles are shown above with their reference numbers.

Where do aluminium doors work best?

Wall and display cabinets, where you want to see what is inside, and in contemporary kitchens where a slim frame suits the rest of the room. A common arrangement is glass-fronted aluminium above and solid doors below.

Are they harder to look after than a solid door?

No, but the glass wants a different cleaner. Use an ammonia-free glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth rather than onto the door, so nothing seeps in behind the frame. Full guidance is in our product care guide.

Is there a warranty?

Cabinetry is covered for 5 years, and hinges and drawer glides carry a lifetime warranty through our suppliers. Full warranty details.

Is aluminium the same as aluminum?

Yes. Aluminium is the spelling used in most of the world and aluminum is the usual North American one. It is the same metal and the same door. We make the frame doors to your measurements in our Burnaby shop.

Can aluminium frame doors go in a bathroom?

Yes. They suit wall, linen and storage cabinets, and the metal frame does not swell or warp with humidity the way a wood frame can. We build bathrooms as well as kitchens, so the doors can match the rest of the room.

Can aluminium frame doors be lift-up doors?

Yes. On a wall cabinet the door can lift up and out of the way instead of swinging out. We fit lift systems from the Aventos range, shown on our accessories page. The height and weight of the door decide which system suits, so we confirm that at the estimate.

How do I order aluminium frame cabinet doors?

Start with a free in-home estimate. We measure the space and you get a quotation first. Then we move to the design phase with drawings and 3D renderings, and adjust the quotation until you are happy. Our own crew builds the cabinetry in Burnaby and installs it. Call 604-559-8080 or use our contact page to book.

How much do aluminium frame doors cost?

Prices vary with the type and size of the door, so every order is quoted. Book a free in-home estimate and you get a quotation first.

How long do aluminium frame doors take?

Lead time for aluminium frame doors is 8 to 12 weeks.
